Hi Colby, Pixar movies have become all-time classics enjoyed by children and adults. Despite being made for children they have captured the hearts of multiple generations with their focus on parenting, relationships, kindness, loyalty, and bravery. Pixar movies are very appropriate for elderly people.
Dear Colby, it is so sad that this sort of situation still happens to Activity staff. You were not wrong with your choice of movie; your director failed to observe that the residents were content and that interference was not necessary. This is what Activity staff do best: elicit a positive response from residents via various activities which often involve reminiscing and revisiting the past. I am sorry this happened to you. Your hurt reveals a person that is very caring and good at your job. I hope that things improve in your workplace for you.
Hi Trudy, I would try a cork board; it is more attractive than a whiteboard. The Date, season, and Monthly Program/Events should be printed colorfully and laminated and then attached with velcro. You can turn it into a monthly activity: getting residents to draw and color borders into A4 and A3 paper so activity staff can add the information, laminate, and attach velcro on the back. I would say that the Menu should continue to be on the whiteboard for practical reasons. Good on you for trying to support activity staff.
Hi Christine, what a good idea; a Hollywood Party! Decoration of the place is very important; large stars in silver and gold to hang on walls or from the ceiling. I would stick to finger foods like popcorn, sweets (consult clinical staff) mini pizzas, and any other popular finger food in your country. Buy or ask someone to make a Hollywood cake with three layers and decorated with stars. For activities, you could plan interviews on your red carpet with 3 or 4 people. Questions for the interview should be all related to movies: The best movie you have seen, the worst, the funniest, your favourite male/female star. Hold an awards show with the best dressed, the best jewelry, the best hat. Good luck!
Hi Wendy, you could try some movements of Tai Chi, here are a few very simple exercises (good for arthritis) you may consider incorporating into your routine: 1) Flat feet on the floor, hands on knees. 2) Bring both hands slowly to the chest, palms away from you (as if you were going to push something away. 3) Then, close hands into fists and release. Do it 10 times. 4) Repeat number 2 above and this time slowly push hands away from you (as if you are pushing something away from you). Do it 7 times. 5) Place hands on knees and slowly open your arms as if you are going to hug somebody. Do it 7 times.
