I do feeding with some of the residents in our facility and I look on it as a 1:1 time with the residents that are bed bound. Many a good conversation can be had over a meal.

Hi Iris Maree, We accessed the horse and cart through Coleraine near Hamilton. I think it is a fair way from you however if you contacted the local riding schools or racing stables they would probably be able to get you I contact with someone. Carol

We also have Mens days once a month but we meet up with 4 other facilities a well so that they can socialise with the other men and renew friendships. We have had riverboat cruises, outings to hotels for lunch, horse and carriage rides and once we even had a plane ride. Great for socialization and for mens morale.

Hi Sandra, I try and do weekly outings with my High care residents. Many times we just go for a drive finishing with an ice cream. We drive around the areas they may be familiar with or drive out to see the airport. Many times the residents may not get off the bus which sometimes is more attractive for them when it is too hot/cold as they just want to blow the cobwebs off. Give it a try Regards Carol

Where I work we have an Annual Memorial Service where a Minister comes and has a short service. I do a Powerpoint Presentation of the residents that have passed away and show it on a large screen with music in the background. The families are invited of the residents that have passed away. It is a tribute to the wonderful times that we had together and good for the families. It is well represented by family members, residents and staff. It only goes for 30 mins .
