The end of the year is an exciting, and exhausting time for everyone. For Leisure and Activity staff it is the busiest time of the year: Christmas parties, a continuous flow of visitors, facility decorations, choosing and wrapping presents, and planning the Activity Program for the New Year.
All of this is added to the usual workload and invariably done graciously with enthusiasm, warmth and compassion.
Activity staff are keenly aware that some residents are at their most vulnerable during the Festive Season. They will be there with a friendly smile to comfort, listen, and soothe because this is the nature of their profession.
When reflecting on the past twelve months, remember to thank those who played a role in assisting you throughout the year: volunteers, residents’ relatives, friends and staff in general.
Praise those who deserve it; let an employee or colleague know that you value them. Compliments don’t cost anything and can brighten someone’s entire day. I guess we should all take heed of Mark Twain, who once proposed: “I can live two months on a good compliment”.
I hope that the service you provide for the residents at your facility is also appreciated, and valued by staff and management.
I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous and Healthy New Year!
Stay tuned to Golden Carers for another exciting year!
