Hi All! I was wondering if you can share some best practices for small groups programs or ideas to help with social isolation in response to Covid-19 crisis? Would love to hear what homes and companies are doing.

Thank you !!!

Hi Laura, visitation restrictions are one of the measures taken by many care facilities. Some are canceling group activities and communal dining, and observing residents and staff for fever and respiratory complaints. Others are screening (taking temperature) staff that works in various facilities before starting their shifts. Also, no greetings involving hand-shaking and kisses or embraces. Of course, there are exceptions for end-of-life visitors, doctor appointments, and other specific needs.

Infection control is key so practice what your facility recommends

All activities outside of my facility have been canceled. The population consists of older men. What kind of activities are you offering if any?

Hy Che'lyn, it depends if and on what stage of dementia they are. Here are a few specific for men: sanding a chair, learning to make sailors knots on YouTube, watching Football on TV, listening to Beer Songs on Spotify, Making paper airplanes, Maths: creative thinking exercises from Golden Carers, sorting by colour or shape, fiddle boxes.
