I used this as a warm up activity for my community 'cognitive stimulation therapy' programme for people with mild to moderate dementia. I called out the question and all participants correctly guessed some of the rhyme answers; between them all 20 were answered correctly, with only a couple of misses with words that did not rhyme with “light”. It was great to see some of the quieter participants having the confidence to answer.

Things that go Together Quiz

I've used this as a warm up activity in a community 'cognitive stimulation therapy' programme for people with mild to moderate dementia. I called out the first part and the participants had to complete the saying. It was really good to see some of my normally quiet participants confidently giving answers and I think was a successful activity.

Finish the Sayings and Proverbs Game

I made cards with half the saying in 'normal' text and the rest of the saying on a separate card in italics. I put my community 'cognitive stimulation therapy' group into two teams and asked each team to work together to match their cards to get the full proverb. Once all were matched, team members took turns to read out the proverb, then a discussion about the meaning of the proverb was had. My participants seemed to enjoy the exercise and conversation.

Balloon Games

I'm currently facilitating a 'cognitive stimulation therapy' in the community for people with mild to moderate dementia. As recommended by others, we played the balloon game using 'pool noodles' (I cut each one into 3 pieces). It was the most animated I have seen the group, in the many weeks of working with them. We all had so much fun : ) Thanks so much for this resource and everyone's comments.

Polish Folk-Art

Another lovely project for our clients. We needed to have some pre cut shapes for a couple of clients who struggled with scissors but the fact that they were having a go was wonderful and they were able to place each piece together with assistance. It was great to see them so proud of their achievement.

This project was a real hit. As we couldn't find coloured paper cups, we found some white ones with patterns on it so the clients painted them instead. The clients really cherished them and made them for family.
