Hi Tracy, Having children visitors is a great idea. Try singing nursery rhymes and playing balloons.

Participation is achieved with a lot of tender loving care. Here are a few tips: 1) Rule out pain/depression. 2) Find out what the resident enjoyed prior to coming to long term care
3) Invite resident to 'watch' activity or help someone to play activity.

Paper Planes Reminiscing Game

You are quite right Christina, the more enthusiastic the MC the better and funnier the game. It is a game suitable to people from 8 to 80 years. The idea came to me after I attended a Trivial Pursuit night for my son's primary school; after Trivial Pursuit we decided to have a competition of paper airplanes. We had so much fun, I had to pass it on.

Hi Madeleine, a lot of people in the industry dislike the title of 'Diversional Therapist, you are not alone. My problem with it is that if someone ask you what sort of work you do and you say "I'm Diversional Therapist' 9 out of 10 times they will ask: "What? What does it mean?!

Hi Shirley, I understand your point of view, but an 'activity-coordinator' could mean a person that you, the Recreation Therapist, delegated to lead and supervise the activities. That person does not necessarily develop, implement and evaluate the activities; that's the role of the RT among many others.

For anyone who was experiencing trouble accessing activities yesterday there seems to have been a glitche with the new site in Internet Explorer which should now have been resolved.
