Hi Bernard, that is so kind of you to spend time with the residents. If the restriction of the Pandemic is not so severe, you may start as a volunteer. Ask staff to help you choose 3 or 4 residents to play cards. Teach them easy games. Soon you will get to know them better and then you diversify; reading the news, and special interest articles, having your own ‘Happy Hour’, watching something exciting on TV, going for a walk in the park, assembling birdhouses kit.
Hi Kerry, I agree with you, poetry is so underrated. It provides inspiration and it is therapeutic for those who read and those who listen, as well as those who write poetry. Despite having a Poetry Reading group for elders being rather challenging, it can be done with patience and ingenuity. If you have any tips, please share them with us.
Hi Michelle, you could try rain gauges to monitor rainfall, some may like it. Also, growing succulents, unraveling sweaters for recycling the wool, making tissue flowers for Mother’s Day, drawing famous artists' emulation pictures, making bookmarks, and Abayomi rag dolls as gifts.
Hi Martin, you could celebrate by talking to your local school's Music Teacher and organizing a children's concert for your residents. You could also hold a showcase session with arts & crafts made by the residents and at the same time expose the dignified service you provide. Another idea is to have a group of residents make a colorful poster with words relating to 'Dignity'. Here are a few words you could use: JUSTICE - PEACE - EQUALITY - FREEDOM - HONOR - TRUTH - HOPE - BROTHERHOOD - STRENGTH - SUPPORT - ENDURANCE - UNITY - RESPECT - COURAGE - PERSEVERANCE - LOVE. All the best.
Hi Pam, welcome! We hope your stay is enjoyable and long. February is a great month, with awesome celebrations that include World Radio Day, St. Valentine’s Day, World Radio Day, The Oscars, and many more activities.
Thanks for publishing this one! I had a great time getting it together. The experience was fairly easy so I will be trying my hand at other DIY templates as well. Your site is the best I have used in the last 36 years of my career as an Activity Director, Certified! I wish I had known about your site whenever it first started! So much content and idea sharing… no need to reinvent the wheel! 😊
