Hi Sally, you are quite right Dementia Action Week in Australia goes from Sept 16 - 22. It includes World Alzheimer’s Day on Sept. 21. The theme for 2019 is ‘Dementia doesn’t discriminate. Do You? The best way to celebrate it is to host a morning tea or a BBQ lunch and invite residents and their relatives. The focus of the event should be the current year theme question. People can take turns (residents and relatives) to share their discrimination experiences and how it affected them. If you can get a guest speaker on the subject all the better. Add some fun in the event by leading a reminiscing session (School Days or My Favourite Teacher) or a singalong.
Hi Christine, the costumes in a panto should be exaggerated as for a parody. having said that, the sky is the limits. Use what you have or can borrow. Good luck.
Hi Ashley and Karen. Ashley, you are on the right track, your ideas would solve the activity problem to many residents. Karen ideas are also worth considering. Volunteers can run many activities competently. Thank you both for sharing.
What a blessing to have found the Golden Carers website, our residents love the activities, particularly fond of visual and musical quizzes. Oh, what fun!! Thanks to all to those at Golden Carers and everyone who contributes to making this website an invaluable tool in ones' toolkit.
