Hi Everyone, I work for a society that has two facilities in North QLD, Australia. We are wanting to bring some chickens and birds to be permanent residents here also, but keep hitting road blocks with our need to follow the QLD health guidelines for having pets reside at aged care homes. It seems that every hurdle we try to overcome, creates three more to tackle! I know there are facilities out there that have successfully kept chickens and birds, and must have all the appropriate work instructions and policies and procedures in place, and was hoping to be able to pick someones brain as to where to start! Thanks in advance :)
Hi Joanne, A simple activity is getting a large sized muffin tin and 12 small yellow balls (they are stress balls you get from a cheap shop) and get them to put them into the muffin tin and also take them out. There is a montessori site for dementia that has lots of wonderful ideas. Good luck Mandy Oats
You're quite the special angel here to assist everyone. It takes a special kind of person to deal with seniors - they are not given the respect or credit they so deserve to have lasted this long on this earth. To have witnessed such history is amazing. So many are forgotten about and I try everyday to share RAOKs (Random Acts of Kindness) with any person I see that could use it - thank you again for the great ideas which I hope to spread around the area to help make others know how special they are.
