These pages have been a lifesaver for me. I have a small group of residents who absolutely love reading them, then discussing the topics and sometimes we spend a long time looking up references on YouTube - ie music, famous people, cultural things, even short films about some of the featured people. Thank you.
The thing that seems to work best for me in this situation - I am also quite new to this role and can find it challenging at times - is Reminiscence sessions. They absolutely LOVE it and it creates a whole different kind of atmosphere in the day room - residents who never usually communicate with each other do so beautifully during these sessions. There are lots and lots of cue questions available in the activities listed on this site. Good luck!
This website has been such a tremendous asset to me in providing such great ideas. The clients have enjoyed the picture bingo, quizzes and I am looking forward to doing word ladders with them for the first time very soon. I also print out crosswords and word searches and make up booklets for them to do in their rooms. I will be definitely rejoining.
