Great idea! I also believe that Christmas in July can be quite confusing.
Good morning. I wanted to reply by saying, I work at many Senior Dining Centers. So all the seniors that attend are very alert and active. Actually it was their idea to have a Christmas in July gathering. We will be having many decorations up. a great meal will be served, and we will be singing many Christmas carols with our volunteer who plays the keyboard. I do understand it could be confusing in a facility, with dementia or Alzheimer's,
But it could also be very uplifting as well.
Thanks Monika, Our residents aren't used to a mid christmas Day and while being off on sick leave they planned one. Result When it came to christmas time everybody was so confused....Love the Idea of a Winter Feast, Thankyou for solving a on going problem....Debs
great idea fiona thanks heaps...monika
Great ideas and every idea helps. Thank you for you input Fiona.
Hi Monika, I know its late but last year the kitchen made cupcake & we put jaffas on top & brought red items in eg, tomato sauce bottle, red apple, red lipstick, scarf etc & put 6 items on a tray & gave residents 2mins to remember items & then changed item for the next group. This was great to get the brain active & they enjoyed same.
Also follow with hangman with red things (capsicum) etc.As staff for red ideas. Hope this helps.
Instead if having christmas in july which confuses quite a few residents we have decided to have a Winter Feast...everything will be white, i.e. tableclothes, napkins, table centrepieces etc. Food will be traditional christmas fare including pudding. Invitations have been extended to family/relatives to attend. Any ideas re decor would be appreciated...Mon
