This cheerful game turns bird watching into a scavenger hunt, where participants can spot birds hiding in common areas.
If you’d like to share bird species from your local area, leave a comment below with where you’re from - we’d love to see what birds are nearby!
Materials
- Printed images of birds
- Scissors
- Laminator and laminating sheets
- Blue tack
- Printed bird-watching checklist and pencil (one per participant)
Set Up and Game Play
- Cut out the printed bird images and laminate them for durability. Cut around the shapes again after laminating.
- Using blue tack, “hide” the birds around the common areas. They might peek out from behind an armchair, perch on a bookshelf, or nestle on a windowsill. The more creative the hiding spots, the more fun the challenge!
- Give each participant a checklist and explain that there are 10 different bird species to find.
- Players check off each bird as they discover it. The first to spot all 10 becomes the Bird Watching Champion!

Birds in New York State, USA
The beautiful Red Tailed Black Cockatoo would be a great addition to this activity.
