Elders can be abused in their own homes, in the homes of their relatives and even in care facilities. They may be abused by their children/grandchildren, caregivers, spouses, partners, and staff in long-term care settings.
Elder abuse includes neglect, violence, and exploitation and is a major concern facing the elderly around the world. Current data suggests that 4 to 5 percent of the elderly suffer from some kind of abuse and that a large percentage goes unreported.
