The Australian Journal of Dementia Care recently had an article about the use of Sensory Stories for people with dementia. The stories are essentially 8-10 simple sentences about a topic (eg going to the beach) and have sensory experiences attached to each sentence (eg rubbing on suncreen, listening to a shell, feeling sand etc). The article was UK based, so the resources in the links may not be exactly the same as for an Australian experience - going to the beach is a great example!

Has anyone developed any sensory stories in Australia that might be able to be used in residential aged care?

Would love your feedback and any experiences you have had in this space - Thanks :)

Hi Donna, thanks for sharing. I found the article most interesting; although I wish it was a little longer. I will search for more information on best practices and examples. Any approach that can support clients with dementia is worth pursuing. Many thanks and best wishes.

I'm very new to aged care so I'm checking in regularly and feel like I have a new best friend.
