This simple card and dice game works well for memory care.

Objective

Materials

  • Deck of cards (with numbers 1-6 only)
  • Dice (one per player)

Instructions

  1. Deal cards face up to each player, ensuring an even distribution. Set aside any extras.
  2. Players take turns rolling a die.
  3. If the die matches a card number, flip that card.
  4. The first player to flip all their cards wins!

*Note: To make it easier for memory care participants, allow them to flip all cards with the same number as the die roll. E.g., if they roll a 4, flip all '4' cards.

I have played this game twice with my memory care residents and they are much better at understanding the concept earlier in the day rather than after lunch when they are tired. Using large soft coloured dice and getting them to take turns rolling gets them more engaged. Also better with a small to medium group so you can offer one to one assistance if needed.
