I need help with planning Black History Month Activity... Any Suggestions?
Hi Rachel, here are a few ideas for BHM: Make a poster/collage of magazine pictures of great African Americans in history: Joe Louis, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Toni Morrison, Barack Obama, and more. Encourage clients to make postcards from Africa; a drawing activity depicting the landscape and animals. Listen to music that celebrates great singers; Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and others. Ask your Chef to cook a dish made famous by slaves and their descendants; Jambalaya, red beans and rice, collard greens, sweet potato pie. Also, this site http://offbeat.topix.com/slideshow/15926/slide32 has very beautiful pictures of African Americans in the 1930s and 1940s.
