Residents seem to had been interested in just giving opinions and input on life events. I've called an activity "friendly forum' time. I've explained that we'll talk about the for/against arguments, or i'll give the pro-cons, and ask what ppl think, in turn. Some topics are controversial, some not. such as spanking children, benefits/cons of tv time for kids, all men should learn to cook & baby sit, which make better companions, dogs or cats etc But encourage the reminiscing with the activity. Its also important to rephrase the topic sometimes to include others, such as not asking for an opinion but just stimulating conversation, such as just asking a resident about their pets. I can see they are feeling validated by sharing :)
