Music has a unique power to unlock memories, spark conversation, and lift the spirits of older adults - even those living with dementia.

This session pack brings together activities designed around the songs, artists, and eras your residents grew up with, creating moments of genuine connection and joy.

This curated pack includes:

  • Reminiscing activities using well-loved songs and artists
  • A fun and lively music roulette game
  • Picture-based and trivia quizzes on music legends
  • Lyrics and artist-matching activities
  • A creative band-naming pictionary game
  • Bonus activities to extend the session or use across the week

Suggested Session Flow

  1. Warm up with memories - Begin with Reminiscing: Five Songs & Their Stories to invite residents to share personal connections to familiar music.
  2. Celebrate love songs - Move into Love Songs & Memories to deepen the reminiscing mood with romantic classics.
  3. Rock the room - Energise the group with Rock 'n' Roll Memories & Music Trivia - great for laughter and lively discussion.
  4. Get creative - Play Name the Band Pictionary for a light, interactive activity that works well in small groups.
  5. Spin the wheel - Use Hit or Miss Music Roulette to keep energy high - residents vote on whether they love or loathe each song!
  6. Finish with a quiz - Close the session with the Baby Boomers Music Quiz for a satisfying group challenge.
