Hi. I have just started at my local nursing home and was wondering what others have found that works and what doesn't work in other centres as far as activities go. Thanks
Hi Joanne. Unfortunately, there is no ‘one size fits all’ in relation to activities. The best activities are the ones patronized by your clients. That’s why it is so important to offer an assortment of activities for them to choose from. Activities can be individual or in groups and they should stimulate the senses. Cognitive activities should include puzzles, riddles, board games and reality orientation. Physical activities should include some kind of seated exercises, like Tai Chi, or Movement to Music. You should also think of Spiritual, Creative, and Social activities that may appeal to your clients. Golden Carers has hundreds of activities with step by step instructions you could use. All the best!
I love this site, there is always an idea, quiz or craft that I can use or modify for my programs. After 35 years as an Activation Coordinator/Senior Facilitator, I am now semi-retired and running programs for individuals and small groups on Zoom (Mind Challenge/Theme Conversations & Your Story).
Love the forum idea and can see it being a real support to each other - wonderful to see the smiling faces, caring and positive attitudes that this field endangers!
Congratulations and thanks to the Golden Carers Team for a professional and well designed website that is internationally useful and user friendly!
