Thanks for notifying us Maggie, we will get this sorted out asap. In the meantime, you can access all the Golden Carers videos from our YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/GoldenCarers
Hi Georgia, thanks for your feedback. We are just in the process of releasing a series of articles focusing on Alzheimer's and High Care residents. I hope you will find this article useful: Alzheimers Disease - 16 practical activites
I am currently developing new group activities for the ward, and my work colleague recommended your website as a fabulous resource. I can't wait to start browsing the site.
Debbie, we have some activities listed in the July section of the calendar for the Olympics this year - we will be adding more in the coming months! https://www.goldencarers.com/calendar/July/
You may also use the activities in the website under the category "Sensory" such as 'Beauty Therapy', 'Nail Care', 'Compresses'. Alternatively you can adapt the 'Scent Guessing' to your aphasic client. Place scent close to their nose and let them inhale a couple of times before proceeding with the next scent. Never assume that there is nothing in their minds just because they are unable to let you know. Another activity that may stimulate their senses is to have a wooden board covered with felt; place the board close to them and place photos of their family on the felt, saying the names of the people. Stay with each photo at least 20 seconds before continue with another. Of course, don't underestimate the power of music, ask their relatives what sort of music they like. Good luck!
Once again Golden Carers has come to the rescue. I live in a retirement village and calling on my years as a Diversional Therapist I constantly use the Golden Carers for new ideas to run my group in the village. I especially love the Read Aloud Audience Participation activity and I always pick a very shy resident to take a part. It is amazing how much it brings them out of their shell. The quiz always helps keeps their minds active and gives them such a feeling of self worth when they get a correct answer.
