We play a similar game pairing words such as bread/butter and horse/cart, dog/bone etc which is enjoyed. To help any that may struggle the pairs of words are printed in a few different colours so we can first match the colour then the paired words which allows different abilities to join in.
I have some receipts made up, one general one and one for meals. I created these for a resident who became agitated, particularly at meal times when he couldn't pay. When he is given a receipt he relaxes and will eat because he believes he has already paid for his meal. The other receipt works in more general circumstances. Remember to check pockets after though before they go through the washing machine!!
I love Golden Carers! When I first became an ‘Activity Aide’ I spent hours scouring the internet looking for meaningful activities for elders experiencing cognitive decline. I finally found ‘Golden Carers’! I’ve passed along ’the find’ to the Activity Director of where I work. Thank you again for all that you do - Golden Carers is much more than a great resource for activities - it’s an education on how to provide ‘life’ to both workers and our elders.
