Hi
We have more men than women in our dementia centre at the moment. I am looking to build a small open shed that the men can tinker in as they pass by on their wanders outside in the garden. It needs to be simple and safe as it won't be supervised at all times I will have a locked box with things like hammers and nails etc for supervised activities.
I was hoping someone could post a photo if you have anything like this in your facility.
Than you.

Hello all!
I live in NY and I am looking for any information on how to get a therapeutic visitation dog/ pet therapy program started at my grandma's nursing home

Dry Harbor Nursing Home In Middle Village NY

She has been there for over 5 years, she has dementia, getting worse and doesn't respond to anything else (bingo, coloring, knitting, movement). I just want to try and do whatever I can to bring some joy to the residents, especially during COVID times. We may not be able to visit our loved ones but we can send some love and joy their way through animal therapy!!!
Or would you be able to point me in the right direction of achieving my goal?
Thank you & happy holidays!!

Best,
Ashley

Hi Yvonne
I sense your frustration and I feel bad
You can only do what you can do
Can you get any family members to help you out even if it’s just friendly phone calls to some of the residents
Perhaps they could send cards to the residents
I think activity packets are a good idea but the residents have to be able to do the activities independently
I hope you do not have too many residents who are sick because that would be a real problem
All I can say is hang in there and do the best you can

Hi, I am an activity director at a skilled facility and our governor has discontinued all group activities and communal dining for 5 months. I have had activity cart going room to too, bunker bingo, special snacks like ice cream floats, drive by parades, virtual vacations, FaceTime appointments that I can barely keep up with. I am the only activity person our facility has 38 beds, very small. I also do hair, nails and am expected to assist with daily meal deliveries. My residents cry to me daily. I am either the residents fill-in daughter and the floor staffs mother. I am drowning, how is everyone else keeping up? Any suggestions? What should I be doing during the Covid restrictions.

Did I mention I do not get any hazard pay (the nurses and aids do) and they want me to maintain 40 hours a week, nights and weekends are required. I am fried!!
