Obviously DT involves a lot of informal 'counselling', whether it is a group activity or one-on-one. But does anyone promote personal counselling as being a recognized service, is it a formal process or just visits etc. I am a DT but not a professional counselor, even though my job requires a constant need for those services
I record it as 1:1 emotional support. Sometimes residents just need someone to listen to them in an unhurried fashion. It promotes trust and may also serve as a way to encourage participation.
I am overwhelmed with the activities on this site, truly amazing. This website has been tremendously amazing and helpful for all my residents on the dementia unit. I have worked in the field of dementia and Alzheimer’s in a long term care home for 30 years. This website is a blessing from above. You are all amazing for the future of care givers and residents.
