Create these beautiful poinsettias for hanging or to use as table decorations at Christmas.

  • Felt in red and/or white and scraps of felt in black, brown or orange.
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Paper clips

  • Download and create templates onto stiff cardboard.
  • Trace onto felt with a fine black pen and cut out.
  • Pinch one end of each petal, apply glue and secure with paper clips (felt takes longer to dry)
  • Take each petal and apply glue underneath; arrange petals on main flower so that they meet in the middle. Allow to dry.
  • Cut small circles or make a small fringe in black or yellow felt and glue to middle of flower.
  • See video if in doubt
  • Note: Hot glue is recommended, but, if not available, use craft glue copiously

Hanging: You can use the flowers as table decorations, or, you can hang two flowers back to back from the ceiling by gluing them to a piece of cardboard.

We used glitter to either highlight the petals or the background and 3 beads as the stamens. A ribbon corresponding to the colour of the felt was threaded through for hanging on the tree and a tag wishing the recipient a 'Merry Christmas from the residents of the facility was attached to the ribbon. The residents gave their creations to family and staff as their gift for Christmas. Each year the residents I work with make a different craft for this purpose. This not only gives their families a hand made memento but also a collection of their crafts over the years, as well as providing the many benefits to the residents, particularly that of self achievement.

My low care residents enjoyed making these. They look absolutely wonderful on the residents tables. I used a hot glue gun to attach gold stamens in the middle.
One of my residents suggested we should use cardboard to glue under the main petals to make the decoration more solid.

These were a great hit, HC and LC had a ball doing this. Lots of glitter and gum nuts for the center. Thanks leonie

Great design, we are making them for our Christmas breakup as a table setting.
