Blessing that is a great suggestion in the meantime you could do some of these things for BHM: Make a poster/collage of magazine pictures of great African Americans in history: Joe Louis, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Toni Morrison, Barack Obama, and more. Encourage clients to make postcards from Africa; a drawing activity depicting the landscape and animals. Listen to music that celebrates great singers; Billie Holliday, Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and others. Ask your Chef to cook a dish made famous by slaves and their descendants; Jambalaya, red beans and rice, collard greens, sweet potato pie. Also, this site http://offbeat.topix.com/slideshow/15926/slide32 has very beautiful pictures of African Americans in the 1930s and 1940s. Choose half a dozen happy pictures and print, enlarge/laminate to show and reminisce with clients. http://offbeat.topix.com/slideshow/15926/slide28

Here is another reason to celebrate Black History Month especially if you have residents with dementia.
