Hi, We are wondering what groups/facilities do when a Member of the community dies? We do put out their picture with a candle but haven't done a "service" do others do more? Just wondering
We do a memorial service. We do a poster board of pictures of the deceased resident. We have a staff member that will sing. We have someone from our local church that comes in and speaks. Afterwards we ask everyone to share a special memory of the deceased resident. At the end we serve cookies and punch.
We have a Chaplin from a local church that does a service for us. He contacts the family and sets a date and time. We call it a memorial. I set a picture and candle out and we turn a light on in the dining room set aside just for the moment the person dies.
Our Chaplin is considered volunteer staff, and we work closely together to go through the stages of grief with the family and residents.
I know I am fortunate. I literally was here a week and needed the service, Chap. James offered to help me out and I accepted. We have been working together ever since.
Golden Carers has been a God send to me. The person before me left me winging it. So, I found Golden Carers in an internet search. I use the calendar, lots of the activity ideas, but the most appreciated is the different ideas from other members. Sometimes knowing what works in other facilities is so helpful.... I'm coming to the end of my first year, and can't wait to renew for another year.

You are very lucky to have a chaplain come in to run the service
