Hello! I'm new here and starting as an Activity Lead Coordinator in a care home next week so I am very excited! I spent 18yrs working with young adults with complex physical and learning needs so am looking forward to transferring my skills into the a dementia specific environment. Just looking for any hints and useful tips? I am so glad I cam across this website the resources are fantastic!
Hi Ruby First of all congratulations at your new job Your experience with young adults with complex needs should be helpful You need to get to know the residents However there are some basics Never argue Never tell them that this is their home Instead tell them the doctor wants them to stay there for a little while People with dementia can have a wide variety of unwanted behaviors that’s why it’s important to get to know them Here are some articles that will help you https://www.goldencarers.com/search/#stq=dementia&stp=1
I just transferred from being a CNA to Therapeutic Recreation. I am a Pinterest queen but needed new ideas. Thank you so much, this has helped me plan May's calendar with ease. Well worth the money and I can use the pictures to make new concentration games that my residents enjoy. Again thanks so much and I will be able to add some games myself
