Here is another fun songwriting activity you can do with for Thanksgiving.
Ask the group what some of their favorite Thanksgiving foods are.
From the list, you can rewrite the words to songs from "The Sound of Music".
This is a fun group activity that gets the group sharing and laughing!

Turkey and dressing
And yams and potatoes
Gravy and biscuits and fresh stewed tomatoes
Crimson red cranberries sure beat the blues
This is a list of my Thanksgiving foods
Creamed spinach soufflé and bacon with green beans
Broccoli, steamed carrots and let’s have more protein
Virginia ham for the rest of the brood
This is a list of my Thanksgiving foods
Corn in cheese sauces with paprika spices
Casseroles baking with wild brown rices
Silvery champagne could bring some new moods
This is my list of my Thanksgiving foods
When the pie burns
When the cake flops
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my Thanksgiving foods
And then I don't feel so bad

The house now abounds with the smell of turkey
With foods we have cooked for so many days
These smells fill my home and it makes me perky
To fill up my plate, celebrate today
My hands want to roll all the dough of the bread that bakes from the stove to the feast
My hands want to break all the bread in our grace that rose from the yeast
To raise a toast and be glad once again we are here for the day
To love all of life like a song who is yearning to play
I go to this place when I’m feeling hungry
I know I will eat what we’ve had before
My heart will be blessed with the love of family
And we’ll feast once more
(to the tune of “Do Re Mi” in The Sound of Music)

Dough, a pie, a pumpkin pie
Pray, a peace for everyone
Be, a game we call it life
Star, somewhere beyond the sun
So, I need a piece of bread
Ah, as if you didn’t know
See, I’ll have some pie instead
That will bring us back to dough…
How creative!
Thank you! It was fun to do! I hope you have fun with it and I'd love to hear how it goes over in your sessions if you use it! :)
