Hi Regan, last year I purhased face washers from one of the cheap shops that way I was able to get packets of 6 or so, then purchased lip balm sticks the same way and wrapped them up like a xmas cracker our resident loved them, another idea I've done is I purchase small photo frames then found a nice poem on the computer and typed them up with there name and glued a small ribbon hook to them, resident all love them and have them in their rooms, as I've had several pass away, I have many families thanking me for the gift and now they have their loved ones still at christmas as they now can hang their personalised poem on the tree as an ornament.

Forum

I am the RAO for 40 High care residents with a range of cognitive and physical ability, I develop the program plus run the program as there is only me. If anyone does the same Id love to see how you set out your day to allow you to provide stimulating activities for all your residents as this area is very difficult. My hours of work are 8.30 to 4pm monday to friday. If you have a monthly calander that can be uploaded I would love to see how others do. Thanks Heather. p.s. I would put mine up but not sure how to do this.

Mothers Day celebration High Care Unit.

Not only did our residents have a great time so did our families and staff.

We started with a high tea for morning tea with minature cup cakes, then had games to involve the men, their job was to put nappies on the doll. We used cloth nappies then introduced them to the disposal nappy.

One of our ladies judged the best one. Laughter all round, even our CEO got involved.

Our room was decorated very family orientated with ironing board and washing on the line, I had dolls on the floor as though the children were playing games, and even one sleeping in the bassinet.

The ladies played put the dummy in the babies mouth.

It's amazing how many mums could do this blind folded. One lady told me, this is easy as mums have eyes at the back of their heads. lol

This was a day full of fun, smiles and lots of laughter.

Our men enjoyed it so much they are talking about what we can do for fathers day.

I hope you enjoy our pictures as much as we enjoyed our day. regards Heather

Thanks Marcia, I did find some information and printed it out, left it on the nurses station and gave it to our physio aide who was very interested and now have her support, yes its a long road to get people to see the benefits rather than looking at it as being childish, I have spoken to the family and now with them on board it is slowly getting better. thanks for your help. I will email you to get some more information on this as very interested.

8 Ways to celebrate Australia Day

Our Australia Day celebrations.

I decorated our activities room using Aussie beach towels, as we live in the country I used australian horse gear such as stock saddles and bridles etc which was enjoyed by our men with great interest.

I was the giant lamington and the residents had fun at pouring the ingrediants on me especially when it got to the eggs and chocolate sauce.

I hold a theme luncheon each month and so far our residents have enjoyed, Italian Culture, Festival of the garden, teddy bears picnic, wonders of the world and a beach party... They get excited to see how their activities room transforms into a magical room of colour and becomes a restaurant just for them,.

I get our chef to provide all the food to go with the theme.

I find as I have many who no longer have confidence to go out in the community this is a great way they can still be a part of the social aspect of getting dressed up to go out, usually they are the first to arrive and last too leave.

Residents have already been asking what the next theme will be so that they can get outfits ready.
