We love to play Prize Twister! We keep track the scores for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. I make different size bags of little candies prizes. Anyone plays gets a candy for playing.
This was an absolute winner! All my residents enjoyed playing. We added some different variations (toss with eyes closed, etc) and point system. We even used the spinner to make it more challenging and they had to throw their bean bag on the color they spun.
I play this with my residents on a regular and they love it. Sometimes we play in teams and sometimes we play in group but individually. Either way they really enjoy this game.
We play "treat twister". I numbered the dots on the floor mat and did the same to the dots on the spin board. I folded the mat so that there is only 4 dots of each colour showing. I numbered the same coloured dots 1-4 and did the same on the spin board. Each dot on the floor mat has a prize on it (dollar store prizes like puzzle books, kleenex, pens, candy, etc..). The resident spins the wheel and whatever dot it lands on, they throw a bean bag at the same dot on the floor mat. If any part of the bean bag touches the correct circle, they win that prize! I often do this for special occasions like Christmas, Valentine's day, Halloween, etc. They really enjoy it!
Supplies needed: A twister sheet with the dots from the Twister game and pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
Give each residents 5 pennies, 5 nickels, 4 dimes & 4 quarters (or whatever budget allows).
Line the residents all up a row. Place the twister sheeet on the floor in front of the first player with the row of red dots closest to resident and centered about a foot away.
He/she then proceeds to toss one penny at a time trying to get it in the red dot. If first coin misses, they then toss their second penny. Whenever a coin lands in it's target dot, the person wins all the coins on the game board.
After first person tosses all their pennies, the game board is then placed in front of the second player who then tosses their pennies.
After everyone has tossed their pennies, the game continues with the first person tossing their nickels into the blue dots, Another round is played then dimes into yellow dots and finally quarters into green dots.
At the end of the game, any money still on the board can be collected and used for future games.
I used what I had... CD Twister... Residents throw 10 old cd's and try to get them in colored circle. We play several bean bag games and wanted to try something that felt different in their hands.
thanks so much for this idea. I work in a facility with some very gentle souls. Our beanbags were so big that we decided two corners on a circle were enough to count for points. They had so much fun!
We do this also. I had my dementia group paint washers the colours of the dots. This way I can have a large group. I have two mats. They Get 5 points for getting it theirs but minus 2 points if they get it on any part of someone else's color. Boy do we have some serious competition.
I played it for the first time today. In the first round they could throw on any circle with the points as per game with 8 bean bags.
In the second game they could double their points by throwing the red bean bag on the red circle. The green bag on the green circle, the red bag on the red circle and the yellow on the yellow circle.
In the third game I taped down a chocolate in the green circle and a chocolate in the yellow circle and then gave them 3 20 cent coins to try and aim for one of the chocolates. If they got the coin on that circle with the chocolate they won it. If the coin got on any other circles I scored that as well and person with highest amount got the prize.
Residents loved the variety of the three games and were very competitive. Thank you also for the music and quiz suggestions will try that next...yeah!!!
I use the Twister mat for penny toss. I place a prize in each circle. They get three pennies. The penny has to land completely in the circle to win. If they win more than1 prize, they choose which one they want. They are allow to win two prizes in the game. They have fun playing on Fridays. We use snacks , bottled water with a pk of drink powder, soda
We do this but with each color is a different music category such as green. Is country music, blue is gospel yellow popular music and red rock n roll. We would have 10 music titles for each group. They then throw the bean bag to hit a color then we would play a part of that song they would have to guess it. We call it a twist on twister. They love it.

The resident spun the dial and when it stopped at that colour they threw a bean bag and tried to land on the stated colour. Once this was completed they then had to answer a general knowledge question and we carried on until the people taking part had had a turn and then everyone wished another turn. Once finished the residents all had two jelly baby sweets each. They then watched as three of our carers had a game of twister with much laughter coming from everyone.
Love the topic on the floor mat idea Liz. Could also mix it up with 1:1 activity of their choice to be actioned by end of week.

I have also bought the game Twister & use the bean bag throwing on the mat activity. Giving each colour different points. It's a fun game for the client's at the Day Centre. I like the other idea Liz had for each colour having a topic. Must try this idea.
I have done something similiar I would lay the mat out, place candy on the different color dots. The resident would spin the spinner whatever color it the spinner landed on what the type of candy they would get.
I have done a similar game with a twister mat. I have also done a twister quiz - each colour has a topic eg green nature, red history etc and whatever colour the beanbag lands on, the resident is asked a question from that category.

I just wanted to say thank you for all you do to help me and others in my field! The support of your resource has been even more important during COVID and I am so, so thankful. Also thank you for creating a Spanish version of This Day in History!!! I recommend you to my colleagues any chance I get.
